Tool Time: Gingrich, Child Labor Laws are Stupid! Video

According to GOP Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich, rather than letting kids carry out a typical childhood, attending classes, he thinks that America's youth should have the option of working at a young age. And that child labor laws are stupid because kids should be able to go out and get jobs, collecting money, no matter how old they are. So according to him, the labor laws are actually impeding a kid's ability to have a real chance in life, rather than protecting them from slave labor.

Kids need to learn ...
Kids need to learn the value of work..to a degree and from their parents. Exploitation of children. How is a child respect work if they forced to work menial jobs and not going to school? They will learn to hate the system denies them an education. Making kids go to work isn't answer in any country. How is making children work improving lives? doesn't. How about paying adults a living wage? The elites here and abroad will fight that to their dying breath...and? then go to hell with their money.

No one is suggesting that children go to work in factories, the suggestion is that they learn the value of work. I don't even live in the US, I am surrounding by appaling poverty every day.? We made child? labor laws so children could go to school, to enjoy childhood not be exploited by factory owners etc, and humanitarian reasons. That's nice you started working at 12...but that was your own decision (was it?) your experience doesn't mean any other child or society should conform to your personal values but the other way around. min wage is a joke and i went to work after HS. I started working? at 12, not full time but a real job that taught responsibility and work ethic. He never said they shouldn't get an education (BTW your first job is an education). You expect no one to work for minimum wage? What you never held a job before graduating college and then stepped into a corner office and a six figure salary? Newt thinks kids in poor areas should be SO DESPERATE for money that they get jobs at, what, 10 years of age just to help add money to the household??? THIS. IS. INSANITYYY! actually factories in the NE that used extensive child labor, paying them miniscule amounts and having horrid safety and health practices, led to those laws. we're talking ~1900-1930. BTW children working for their parent's businesses are exempt. child labor creates a cycle? of poverty though.. jobs for adults are diminished due to cheaper child labor rates. the children do manual labor and miss out on an education allowing them to work anything BUT manual labor.

I must say I agree with this? dufus for once! Children even at young age like 6 can make a buck, and should be allowed too. In the future more things will be manual labor, that is now mechanized due to cheap fossil fuels. And why shouldn't children be put on menial tasks like weeding or running errands!?!?

Children should be able to work at a younger age. Working provides a great education. Experience is the best teacher. In NJ USA, most employers won't consider you for a job till you're 16 years old and then they'll only give you 10 hours? of work per week. I started with a paper route when I was in the 5th grade at age 11. Kids these days don't want to work, so those jobs go to the illegal aliens.
